The Smallest House | Amsterdam
If you are a tea lover like me then I have the perfect place for you! If you are planning to visit Amsterdam then don’t forget to pass by The Smallest House. It’s literally the smallest self-contained house in the capital and you can find it in the address Oude Hoogstraat, number 22. I accidentally found it a couple of weeks ago while I was walking around the city.
It’s really small but oh so cosy! The ground floor is a shop and you can buy tea (the one I tried and I think my personal favourite, until proven otherwise, is the “Smallest House Blend”, it tastes like Christmas!), ceramics and other tea related things. If you wish to drink your tea there, you can do so in the first floor. Due to its small size, there is only one table with five chairs, where you can drink your tea or coffee gazing out of the window, at the busy everyday life of the cobbled streets of Amsterdam. It works as a charm for those of you that don’t feel comfortable in very crowded places as due to the size of the room it can be considered a private place, where you can enjoy some tea and quiet time with your small group of friends. That being said if it’s already full, you won’t be able to sit in, that is why you can also pre-book it; we were lucky that day because the previous customers had just left! One of the best things in my opinion was the homemade apple pie which they were serving, that I absolutely loved, it was so tasty!
On top of everything, the owner was really friendly and he even stayed with us for a while, telling us everything about the long history of the building, which is a marvel itself; the whole experience was immensely interesting! You can find the whole history in the official website www.thesmallesthouseinamsterdam.com if you are a history lover! I will definitely go there again and I highly recommend it to everyone that visits or lives in Amsterdam!
