Meet the blogger | Denise’s planet
It’s time for our 4th member, Denise, to answer our questions and let us know more about her, and her blog. I’m sure you can’t wait to meet her properly, so let’s start!
1) Stylishly Beautiful Team (from now on SBT): Tell us a few things about yourself.
Denise: It’s not easy to talk about it – people normally say that I’m diplomatic, patient and adventurous. I love learning languages, I’m Master in British Education, Economics and Politics and French Literature and Philosophy. I also studied Technical Accountancy, American Literature and other things. I love trips and I’ve visited 40 countries. Certified flamenco dancer, vegetarian since childhood, Bollywood lover and I have 452 pairs of shoes till today – some people criticize me, but some collect stamps, I collect shoes. I write about my “adventures” on Denise’s planet, though the blog evolves and isn’t totally ready yet 🙂
2) SBT: How did you decide to create your blog?
Denise: I was always very curious willing to discover and pioneering things. I was always the “first to know how to do this and that” and in the past it was the same about blogs. My first blog was launched on Christmas 2005, purely to discover that new ground. I wrote on it till 2012.
3) SBT: What inspired the name of your blog?
Denise: I wanted my name on the blog, but the platform I used didn’t allow it, so I used another URL. As a name it was then Denise’s planet, codes and secrets. When I launched my new blog in 2013 I still wanted my name on it. Planet for me means “a person’s world”. The old name was too long; I had suggestions to use Denise’s planet then – because of my trips and the things I love “in my world”. My fear is that it may sound egocentric, something that I don’t think I am, but friends told me it sounded good… I like it, but I still fear that people get the wrong impression about me.
4) SBT: Which are the 5 key pieces, in your opinion, everyone should have in their closet?
Denise: It depends on the lifestyle of the person. For me, whatever the person likes – we have this right. What’s good for one person may not be for another, so I can’t share an opinion. It also depends on the country you live. Some fashion rules serve for people to feel bad about themselves. There’s no wise advice, I think, but I respect disagreement. Unfortunately, some people are always trying to bring us down. We’ll never please everybody – so wear what makes you happy and comfortable.
5) SBT: How would you describe your style?
Denise: The right question would be “what’s your style like NOW”. I change very much. In the past, when I worked for international banks and embassies it was totally elegant ladylike and I loved it – people always paid compliments. Looking back, I think I looked older then. Now I’m most of the time hippyish, Indian fashion lover, quirky, boho, gypsy with a 70s flair. Also, because of the trips I must compromise and wear what I pick from my suitcase. Looking OKish is enough now, so that’s my style at the moment. But I may change 🙂
6) SBT: What would be your advice to someone who wants to look stylish?
Denise: Wear what you feel is nice FOR YOU. No matter of what people say. You have just one chance to be yourself in the world. Smile and don’t listen to Fashion Dictators. Don’t copy people who just try to impress. What’s stylish in some environment isn’t in another place. “Stylish” is what makes you happy. If others don’t like your clothes, let them stress about it, not you.
7) SBT: What’s blogging for you?
Denise: Meeting amazing friends – in person too! – through their blogs, exchanging ideas, getting to know about their worlds. It’s a means of expression, a diary, learning new things and finding out new stuff.
8) SBT: What would you advise someone who who wants to start blogging?
Denise: It’s so competitive, so it depends on your goals – to make cash or share thoughts and news. Your goals may change along the way. I’d say have fun, express yourself, exchange ideas – you’ll learn a lot and meet nice people, for sure!
9) SBT: What would you say is the best and the worst part of blogging?
Denise: The best part is expressing yourself, learning, meeting amazing people, exchanging ideas. The worst is that the blogosphere seems to be just numbers – how many followers, labels, etc. And not everybody wants your success – the competition can be mean. Also, I’d love to have more time reading and commenting, but as one blogger-friend said “life is what happens while/when you are out of the web”. I used to feel guilty for the lack of time for blogs, but after she said that I felt better 🙂
10) SBT: What are your plans for the future?
Denise: I don’t have many plans, actually. Everyday is a bonus in life. I hope I’m able to go on sharing some thoughts through posts and knowing some amazing places and people. I also want to see the ones I love feeling happy.
10 +1) SBT: Tell us a few things we may still not know about you.
Denise: I don’t know what to say… A blogger-friend of mine (I did learn a lot from blogging!) said that many of us live in excess, and I’m certainly one of them. I don’t need everything I have, but I’m not perfect. I like positive quotes, I paint and I love meditation and the sea. I think we are in this world to learn and to help each other sharing love and compassion.

Hi! Great article on you Denise!!! I loved learning more about you, all the more so since I’ve met you! I’ve finally figured out this website, I couldn’t seem to click on anything when I have tried to look on my phone so must remember to look on the computer! Wow, I did not know you had that many shoes, that’s amazing! I have a fair few but not that many! I’d love to see them all!x
Hi Kezzie! Thank you for your comment on Stylishly Beautiful. I’m sure Denise will answer you too, but since I’m the owner of this site, would you mind telling me which mobile device you use that doesn’t allow you to click on anything from it? Because the theme is fully-responsive, and it’s supposed to work on all mobile devices and tablets, so it would really help us if you could tell us a few details. It works great on all devices we’ve checked so far, so I would really appreciate if you could let us know, so we can check it more thoroughly.
Thank you in advance! 🙂
Hi, Kezzie! Me again 🙂 And thank you so much for your comment here too! Well, I see Markella has already answered, but I know your mobile also didn’t allow to see my blog, so I suppose it happens with other sites and blogs as well? I hope you can fix it! Yes, one day I am planning to show them all 🙂 I am always building or buying new furniture and shelves – my carpenter likes it, he always has work 🙂 Hope we can talk soon! XXX
